I always find that last minute plans are the ones that work out best, and I think this falls into that category. As last minute goes, this was definitely that. Went for a bbq on Ogmore beach late Saturday night, then decided to head down west the next day for a camping trip. Was also a celebratory trip after the MIGHTY bluebirds secured their championship status on the Saturday afternoon. Plan was to meet the boys on the road then bomb it down West.
Thankfully the roads were fairly quiet, as most people going away had done it much earlier. Took little over an hour to get into St. Davids and find the campsite, and then to convince the woman we would bo ok on her site, after she went off on one about noise, and how her daughter was banned. First drama of the day was to get the tents up. Faced with a choice of sharing a 4 man tent with 4 other people, or putting up my own, for once I decided that being lazy would be the wrong option. Quickly proved to be the right option, as the race to get the tents up was won by me, on my own against the 4 of them with theirs. Might have helped that it was the tent that I had used many times before (even tho it wasnt actually mine), and they didnt really have a clue. Oh yeah, and the wind was almost blowing them away, but I still got my tent up first!
After this was finished, and we had hit a load of tents playing football, we headed into town in search of food + beer. The people found in St. Davids town centre (although technically its a city cos of the cathedral) are something else, whether tourists or locals, there's some dodgy looking people there, perhaps a bit too closely related if you get me.
After checkin the surf at whitesands, and a quick game of beach football, it was time for a spot of golf. Not normally the most exciting of sports, but it can really be done anywhere, at least you can hit balls anywhere, and whitesands cliffs are no exception. Proof that Ralph at least didnt really have a clue can be seen in the vid.
The wind started to really pick up once back at site, I'm sure the only thing stopping my tent from blowing away was me being in it. Monday was pretty much a wash out, with non stop rain and wind most of the day. Off to pub then for breakfast and many, many games of pool and some wandering round the city. Blagged our way to free parking in whitesands twice by saying we were just checkin the surf or picking people up, but I don't think the guy taking the money really cared. Headed back to the campsite just to have a slalom in the cars between the posts showing where the tent pitches were, could get the cars sliding nicely with how wet the fields were, tho I did nearly get stuck a few times in the mud.
Not much else to do besides driving round and heckling the Nun's cos it was too wet to do anything really. Went into Haverfordwest in search of food before heading back. Must be the first time I've been down that way and not skated the ledges, felt pretty weird to just drive past them but at least it was wet.
Driving home got stuck in the same traffic queues with all the pikey tourists on their way back to the wrong side of the bridge, M4 became a big carpark for few hours. Times like that when car cd players become essential!
